Goldflake angelfish

Apolemichthys xanthopunctatus, the goldflake angelfish, is a marine angelfish in the family Pomacanthidae, native to reefs of the central Pacific around islands such as the Line and Phoenix groups. It has a golden-yellow body dusted with fine gold spots, a dark-edged dorsal fin, blue lips, and a striking yellow-and-blue face. It is a moderately bold, semi-aggressive angelfish that establishes a territory and is best kept as the only large angel in most aquariums. It coexists with robust tankmates once settled. It requires a large, mature aquarium with abundant live rock for grazing and shelter, and stable water quality. An omnivore, it should be offered angelfish preparations containing sponge, marine algae, and meaty foods. It is generally not considered fully reef-safe, as it may nip corals and clam mantles. It is a prized, relatively uncommon species that rewards an experienced marine keeper.
