Saddleback clownfish

The saddleback clownfish is an anemonefish of the family Pomacentridae, native to the Indo-West Pacific, often found over silty or sandy lagoon bottoms. It is dark brown to black with a white head bar and a distinctive white saddle across the midbody, from which it takes its name. Like other clownfish it lives in a symbiotic relationship with sea anemones, typically the saddle carpet anemone. It is moderately territorial and forms a hierarchical pair, the dominant fish becoming a large female. A single fish or a bonded pair is best; it can become aggressive toward other clownfish or tankmates near its host. It does well in a reef or fish-only aquarium with a host anemone, though it can adapt without one. It readily accepts a varied omnivorous diet of frozen and prepared marine foods. Saddleback clownfish are among the species regularly bred in captivity, laying eggs near the base of their anemone.
