Orange-striped goby

The orange-striped goby is a marine goby (family Gobiidae) from the western Pacific. Its whitish body is marked with fine diagonal orange stripes edged in blue, and it has the low-slung, sand-sifting habits typical of the genus Amblygobius, constantly processing substrate for edible morsels. It is peaceful and can be kept singly or as a pair, spending most of its time near the bottom close to a burrow or crevice retreat. It needs a mature reef aquarium with a fine sand bed and live rock harbouring microfauna, since its sifting behaviour relies on a steady supply of tiny invertebrates. It benefits from a well-established tank and supplemental feedings of mysis and other frozen foods. Reef-safe and useful for keeping sand clean, it suits intermediate keepers who can meet its feeding needs.
