Byno's goby

Byno's goby is a sand-sifting goby widespread across the Indo-West Pacific, from East African coasts to northern Australia, where it inhabits sheltered lagoons and rubble-and-sand flats near reefs. It is a peaceful, hardy fish that spends the day taking mouthfuls of substrate to filter out small crustaceans, worms and other micro-invertebrates, so a mature tank with a deep, fine sand bed and a well-established microfauna is essential. House it in at least 100 litres of stable reef water at 24-27C, pH 8.1-8.4, carbonate hardness 8-12 dKH and salinity 33-35 ppt. It is reef-safe with corals and cleans detritus from the sand, though it may quarrel with other sand-sifting gobies. Feed varied meaty foods, including frozen mysis and enriched brine shrimp, to supplement natural grazing.
