Wheeler's shrimpgoby

Wheeler's shrimpgoby is a small, colorful marine goby of the family Gobiidae, native to the Indo-Pacific. It has a whitish body crossed by bold red-orange bars and speckled with blue spots, making it a popular and attractive nano reef fish. It lives in a well-known symbiosis with alpheid pistol shrimp: the shrimp digs and maintains a burrow shared by both, while the sharp-eyed goby stands guard and signals danger with a flick of its tail. It is a carnivore that feeds on small crustaceans and zooplankton. In the aquarium it is peaceful and reef-safe, ideal for smaller systems, especially when paired with a pistol shrimp to display its natural partnership. It needs a sand or fine rubble substrate for burrowing, plenty of shelter, and a secure lid, as it may jump. It accepts a range of small meaty frozen foods and settles quickly once a burrow is established.
