Pinkbar goby

Amblyeleotris aurora
French name : Gobie-crevette aurora

The pinkbar goby is a marine fish of the family Gobiidae, native to sandy reef flats of the Indo-Pacific. It is whitish to pale with a series of bright orange-pink vertical bars across the body and blue-speckled fins, making it one of the more colorful shrimp gobies. It lives in a well-known symbiosis with alpheid pistol shrimp, sharing a burrow the shrimp digs while the goby acts as a lookout; this partnership is a highlight of keeping the species. It is peaceful and can be kept singly or as a pair. It needs a deep sand bed for burrowing and does best when provided with a pistol shrimp partner. It is a carnivore feeding on small crustaceans and other meaty foods such as mysis and brine shrimp. Reef-safe and undemanding once settled, it suits a peaceful reef aquarium, though it can be shy and may jump, so a covered tank is advisable.
