Yellowfin surgeonfish

The yellowfin surgeonfish is a large marine tang in the family Acanthuridae, widely distributed across the Indo-Pacific and eastern Pacific. Its body is dull grayish-blue to purple with fine wavy lines, and the pectoral fins carry a distinctive yellow band, with a yellow mask often present around the eyes. It is a schooling grazer in the wild, feeding on algae, detritus, and sometimes zooplankton over reefs and sandy flats. Because it reaches a substantial size, it requires a very large marine aquarium or public-scale system with abundant open swimming room. Its diet should be predominantly algae and vegetable-based with meaty supplements. It carries the sharp tail spine typical of surgeonfish and can be aggressive toward similar species. Its large adult size makes it suitable only for experienced keepers with very large tanks.
