Spotted Congo puffer
The spotted Congo puffer is a freshwater pufferfish in the family Tetraodontidae, endemic to the Congo River basin in Central Africa. It has a rounded, mottled greenish-brown body covered in dark spots, expressive eyes, and the ability to inflate when threatened. Notably, it is one of the few freshwater puffers tolerant of soft, neutral water. It is comparatively peaceful for a puffer and can sometimes be kept in small groups, though individuals vary in temperament and may nip fins. A well-filtered tank with soft to slightly acidic water, hiding places, and plants is recommended. Like all puffers it is a carnivore requiring hard-shelled foods such as snails and shrimp to wear down its continuously growing teeth; it also takes bloodworms and other meaty foods. It is sensitive to poor water quality.
