African Glass Catfish
Pareutropius debauwi, the African Glass Catfish, is a slender, active schooling catfish from the Congo Basin and West-Central African rivers. Semi-transparent with dark lateral stripes and a constantly fluttering tail, it swims tirelessly in mid-water rather than hiding on the bottom. It is peaceful and gregarious and must be kept in a shoal of at least six, ideally more, or it becomes stressed and reclusive. Provide a well-planted tank with open swimming lanes, gentle to moderate current, and soft, slightly acidic water: pH 6.0 to 7.5, low to moderate hardness, and temperatures of 23 to 26 C. An omnivore, it readily accepts small frozen and live foods, sinking granules and quality flake. Combine with other peaceful, similarly sized community fish such as tetras, rasboras and corydoras. Good water quality and stable parameters keep it healthy.
