Mbu puffer

Tetraodon mbu
French name : Tétraodon géant (Mbu)

The Mbu puffer is the largest freshwater pufferfish, in the family Tetraodontidae, native to the Congo River basin and Lake Tanganyika in central Africa. It inhabits large rivers and lake margins. It has a heavy, rounded body with an intricate yellow and dark maze-like pattern, expressive eyes, and a beak formed from fused teeth. Its size and personable behavior make it a striking centerpiece fish. It is highly intelligent but aggressive and must be kept alone, as it will attack tankmates. It requires an enormous aquarium with powerful filtration and pristine water because of its large waste output. Its constantly growing beak must be worn down with a diet of hard-shelled foods such as snails, mussels, and crustaceans. It is a long-term commitment demanding a very large system, and is strictly for advanced keepers.
