Redtail notho

Nothobranchius guentheri is a brilliantly colored annual killifish from seasonal pools and floodplains along coastal Tanzania and Zanzibar. Males are electric blue with vivid red-edged scales and a striking red tail, while females are plain silvery-brown. As an annual species it has a short natural lifespan, its eggs surviving in the dried substrate through the dry season, which makes peat-based spawning and egg storage central to its care. Keep it in a quiet, softly lit tank with gentle filtration and dark substrate; a single male with several females works best, as males can be pushy toward one another. It is a carnivore relishing live and frozen foods such as bloodworms, daphnia, brine shrimp, and blackworms. Susceptible to velvet and fungal issues, it benefits from clean, slightly soft, warm water.
