Volcano killifish

Aphyosemion volcanum
French name : Aphyosemion volcanum

The volcano killifish is a small West African killifish of the family Nothobranchiidae, associated with the volcanic Mount Cameroon region. Males show attractive red and blue patterning typical of the genus, while females are plainer and brownish. It is a carnivore that feeds on tiny insects, larvae, and micro-crustaceans in small, shaded forest waters. It inhabits soft, acidic conditions and cooler, well-oxygenated streams than many tropical fish. In the aquarium it suits a small, dimly lit, planted tank with soft acidic water and a secure lid to prevent jumping. It prefers live and frozen foods such as daphnia, grindal worms, and brine shrimp. It is a plant-spawner that lays eggs among fine vegetation or spawning mops. This is an obscure species with limited documentation, so its exact requirements and behavior remain uncertain.
