Lyretail killifish

Aphyosemion australe
French name : Cap Lopez (killi australe)

The lyretail killifish, often called Cape Lopez, is a member of the family Nothobranchiidae, native to coastal freshwater habitats of western Africa, including Gabon and Angola. It lives in small forest streams and pools. Males are strikingly colored, with an orange-brown to greenish body speckled with red spots and lyre-shaped tail and fin extensions edged in white or blue; females are plain brown. It is one of the most popular and easily kept killifish. Unlike many killifish it is not strictly annual and is relatively long-lived. It is peaceful and does best in a well-planted tank with soft, slightly acidic water, subdued light, and a tight cover, as it may jump. It accepts small live, frozen, and prepared foods. It is a plant-spawner, laying eggs among fine vegetation, and is straightforward to breed. Suited to beginner and intermediate keepers.
