Pearl Gourami

Trichopodus leerii
French name : Gourami perlé

The pearl gourami is a freshwater labyrinth fish of the family Osphronemidae, native to peat swamps and slow waters of the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo. It is prized for its delicate pearl-like white spotting over a brownish body, a dark lateral line, and a red-orange throat and breast that intensifies in breeding males. It is a generally peaceful, somewhat timid species that appreciates the company of its own kind and calm tankmates. Males can become mildly territorial when breeding. A spacious, well-planted tank with subdued lighting, floating plants and gentle flow suits it best. It is an omnivore taking flake, pellet, frozen and live foods, and helps control small pest invertebrates. Males build bubble nests among floating vegetation and guard the eggs and fry. Its elegance and easygoing nature make it a longtime community-tank favorite.
