Celebes rainbowfish
The Celebes rainbowfish is a graceful freshwater fish in the family Melanotaeniidae, endemic to Sulawesi (Celebes), Indonesia. It has a translucent yellowish body with a blue-green sheen, and mature males develop dramatically extended dorsal and anal fin rays edged in yellow and black. It is a peaceful, active shoaling fish that should be kept in groups, where males display their flowing fins to one another. It occupies the middle and upper water and prefers to swim in loose schools. It appreciates a planted aquarium with open swimming areas, gentle current, and slightly hard, alkaline water; some keepers add a little salt reflecting its coastal origins. It accepts small prepared, frozen, and live foods. It scatters eggs among fine-leaved plants over several days, and the fry are small and need tiny first foods.
