Bala shark

Balantiocheilos melanopterus
French name : Requin argenté

The bala shark is a large cyprinid (family Cyprinidae) from Southeast Asia, historically found in rivers and lakes of Borneo, Sumatra, and the Malay Peninsula. Despite its common name it is not a shark; it has a torpedo-shaped silver body with a shark-like dorsal fin and black-edged fins. It is a peaceful but very active, fast-swimming schooling fish that becomes nervous when kept alone or in cramped quarters and should be maintained in a group. Because it grows large and swims constantly, it requires a long, spacious aquarium with a tight lid, as it is a strong jumper. It is an omnivore that eats flakes, pellets, and frozen and live foods, and it may eat very small tankmates as it grows. It mixes well with other robust, peaceful fish. Its eventual size means it is best suited to keepers who can provide a large tank.
