Asian rummynose

The Asian rummynose, or Sawbwa barb, is a small cyprinid (family Cyprinidae) endemic to Inle Lake in Myanmar. Unusually for a barb it lacks barbels; males are silvery-blue with vivid red on the snout and on the tips of the tail lobes, while females are plainer silver. It is a peaceful, active schooling fish that must be kept in a sizable group to feel secure and to display its best color, with males coloring up as they compete. An aquarium with hard, alkaline water reflects its native lake conditions, which differ from typical soft-water community setups. A planted tank with open swimming space and steady, cool-to-moderate temperatures suits it. It is an omnivore that accepts small flakes, micro-pellets, and frozen foods such as daphnia and brine shrimp. It can be bred as an egg-scatterer. Meeting its specific water chemistry makes it best for intermediate keepers.
