Honey gourami

The honey gourami is a small labyrinth fish of the family Osphronemidae, native to still and slow-moving waters of northeastern India and Bangladesh in South Asia. Breeding males develop a warm honey-gold to reddish-orange body, while females and non-breeding fish are a plainer silvery-tan with a faint horizontal line. It is a genuinely peaceful and rather shy gourami, well suited to calm community tanks, and can be kept singly, in pairs or small groups. As a labyrinth fish it gulps air at the surface. A well-planted aquarium with floating plants, gentle filtration and some open surface access mimics its habitat and encourages confidence. It is an omnivore taking flake, micro-pellets and small live or frozen foods. It is a bubble-nest builder; the male constructs a nest among plants and guards the eggs and fry, making it an accessible species for first-time breeders.
