Palembang puffer
The Palembang puffer is a freshwater pufferfish of the family Tetraodontidae, native to slow-moving rivers and blackwater habitats of Sumatra and Borneo in Southeast Asia. It has a mottled brown and cream camouflage pattern, a broad head, and the ability to raise crests along its back and belly when threatened or displaying. It is an ambush predator with a generally sedentary, lie-in-wait lifestyle, and can be territorial and intolerant of its own kind, so it is usually kept singly in a species tank. A well-planted setup with soft, slightly acidic water, driftwood and leaf litter suits it well. Its diet is strongly carnivorous, favoring snails, shellfish and other hard-shelled invertebrates that help wear down its constantly growing teeth. It is generally not recommended for community tanks due to fin-nipping and predatory behavior.
