Yellowhead jawfish
The yellowhead jawfish is a small marine fish in the family Opistognathidae, native to sandy and rubble reef zones of the Caribbean and western Atlantic. It has a pale bluish body with a bright yellow head and large expressive eyes, and it hovers vertically just above its burrow. It is a burrow-dweller that constructs and maintains a vertical tunnel in the sand, lined with bits of shell and rubble, retreating tail-first when threatened. It needs a peaceful reef aquarium with a deep sand bed of at least several centimeters mixed with coral rubble so it can dig and reinforce its burrow. A tight-fitting lid is essential, as it is a notorious jumper. It is reef-safe and does best with calm tankmates. It is a male mouthbrooder. It feeds on zooplankton and small meaty foods, and suits intermediate keepers who can provide the right substrate.
