French angelfish

Pomacanthus paru, the French angelfish, is a large marine angelfish in the family Pomacanthidae, native to reefs of the western Atlantic and Caribbean. Adults are nearly black with each scale rimmed in bright golden yellow, giving a scalloped, speckled appearance, while juveniles are black with vivid vertical yellow bars and act as cleaners. It is a bold, curious fish that becomes territorial with age and is best kept singly or as an established pair. Its large size and confident temperament make it unsuitable for timid tankmates. It requires a very large aquarium with abundant live rock for grazing and swimming room. An omnivore that feeds heavily on sponges in the wild, it needs a varied diet including angelfish preparations containing sponge, marine algae, and meaty foods. It is not considered reef-safe, as it readily nips corals, clams, and other sessile invertebrates.
