Blue angelfish

The blue angelfish (Holacanthus bermudensis) is a marine angelfish of the family Pomacanthidae, native to the western Atlantic, including Florida, Bermuda, and the Gulf of Mexico. Adults are yellowish to blue-grey with blue-edged fins and yellow tail margins, while juveniles are dark with bright vertical blue bars. It hybridizes readily with the closely related queen angelfish. It is a large, semi-aggressive fish that becomes territorial with age and is best kept singly with other robust tankmates. A very large aquarium with abundant live rock for grazing and hiding is essential. Its natural diet is dominated by sponges and algae, so it requires prepared foods containing sponge along with marine algae and meaty items. It is not reliably reef-safe, as it nips corals and invertebrates. Good water quality supports its long-term health. Captive breeding is rare in home aquaria.
