Two-spot catfish

Mystus bimaculatus
French name : Mystus à deux taches

The two-spot catfish is a small freshwater catfish of the family Bagridae, native to Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia and Malaysia. It has an attractive reddish to orange-brown body marked with a couple of dark spots along the flank, and long sensory barbels around the mouth. It is a carnivore that forages near the bottom for small invertebrates, worms, and crustaceans, often becoming more active in dim light. It is a relatively peaceful bagrid that can be kept in small groups. In the aquarium it appreciates a well-planted, dimly lit tank with driftwood and hiding spots, plus soft, slightly acidic water reflecting its blackwater origins. It accepts sinking pellets, frozen bloodworms, and other meaty foods. Small fish may be viewed as prey, so tankmates should be of similar or larger size. This is a less commonly documented species, so some care details are uncertain.
