Lake Tebera rainbowfish

Melanotaenia herbertaxelrodi
French name : Poisson arc-en-ciel du lac Tebera

The Lake Tebera rainbowfish is a colourful schooling species endemic to the Lake Tebera drainage in the central highlands of Papua New Guinea, where it inhabits warm, clear, well-vegetated waters. Adult males develop a striking golden-yellow body crossed by a dark midlateral stripe, with colour intensifying during courtship and among rivals. It is a peaceful, very active fish best kept in groups of at least six to reduce squabbling and encourage natural behaviour; it mixes well with other rainbowfishes, larger tetras and rasboras. Provide a spacious tank with open swimming lanes, plants and moderate current. Water should be warm, neutral to slightly alkaline and moderately hard. An omnivore, it thrives on quality flakes, small frozen foods and regular vegetable matter to maintain its vivid colouration.
