Rock beauty angelfish

Holacanthus tricolor
French name : Ange tricolore

The rock beauty is a marine angelfish (family Pomacanthidae) from the tropical western Atlantic and Caribbean. Adults are bright yellow on the head and tail with a large black patch covering most of the body; juveniles are mostly yellow with a blue-ringed black spot. It is a semi-aggressive, territorial angelfish that becomes bolder with age. It is best kept singly and can harass smaller or more timid tankmates in a confined space. It needs a large aquarium with plenty of live rock for grazing and refuge. It is an omnivore that in the wild feeds heavily on sponges along with algae and tunicates, which makes it difficult to sustain in captivity; it requires a varied diet including sponge-based angelfish foods and frequent feedings. Its specialized nutrition places it among the more challenging Atlantic angelfish to keep long term.
