Queen angelfish

Holacanthus ciliaris
French name : Ange royal (ciliaris)

The queen angelfish is a large marine fish of the family Pomacanthidae, native to reefs of the western Atlantic and Caribbean. Adults are spectacular, with a blue and yellow body, bright yellow tail, and a distinctive dark, blue-ringed spot on the forehead resembling a crown, while juveniles are darker with vertical blue bars. It is a bold, territorial fish that becomes more aggressive with age and is usually kept singly in a large system. It requires a very spacious tank with abundant live rock for grazing and hiding, along with excellent, stable water quality. It is an omnivore feeding heavily on sponges in the wild, so a varied captive diet including sponge-based angelfish preparations, marine algae and meaty foods is important. It is generally not considered reef-safe, as it may nip corals, clams and other sessile invertebrates. Hardy once established, it is a prized centerpiece fish for large fish-only or robust reef aquariums.
