Longsnout seahorse

Hippocampus reidi
French name : Hippocampe de Reid

The longsnout seahorse is a member of the family Syngnathidae, native to the western Atlantic from the Caribbean to Brazil. It lives among seagrass, sponges, and gorgonians in shallow coastal waters. It is slender with a notably long snout and highly variable coloration, ranging from orange and yellow to red or brown, often with fine speckling; individuals can change color to match surroundings. It is one of the more colorful Atlantic seahorses. It is peaceful and delicate, best kept in a dedicated species aquarium with gentle flow and plenty of hitching posts. It needs frequent feeding of enriched frozen mysis and should not be housed with fast or aggressive tankmates. Males brood young in a pouch and give live birth. Captive-bred specimens adapt best. Suited to advanced aquarists.
