Neon goby
The neon goby is a tiny marine goby (family Gobiidae) native to the western Atlantic and Caribbean. Its dark body is split by brilliant electric-blue lateral stripes running from snout to tail, a coloration that advertises its role as a cleaner fish removing parasites from larger reef inhabitants. It is peaceful and can be kept singly, in pairs, or in small groups, often forming a bonded pair that perches together on the rockwork. Its cleaning behaviour benefits tankmates and is fascinating to observe. A reef aquarium with live rock suits it perfectly, and it is entirely reef-safe. It feeds on small crustaceans and parasites, accepting mysis, brine shrimp, and finely prepared foods. Notably, neon gobies are among the easiest marine fish to breed in captivity, laying eggs in crevices that the male guards.
