Giant danio

Devario aequipinnatus
French name : Danio géant

The giant danio is a large, powerful cyprinid from the fast-flowing, well-oxygenated hill streams of Sri Lanka and western India. Its elongated blue-green body is marked with broken golden longitudinal stripes and spots that flash under light. This is a tireless, fast-swimming shoaling fish that needs groups of at least eight and a long tank with ample open swimming length; cramped quarters cause stress and fin nipping. Generally peaceful, its size and speed make it an ideal dither fish for larger community setups and even peaceful medium cichlids, though it may intimidate very small or slow tankmates. It is hardy and adaptable across a wide range of parameters but appreciates cooler, well-oxygenated water with brisk current. Feed a varied omnivorous diet of flakes, pellets and frequent live or frozen foods. A tight-fitting lid is essential as it jumps.
