Zebra Danio
The zebra danio is a small, hardy freshwater fish in the family Cyprinidae, native to streams, rice paddies, and slow waters of the Indian subcontinent. Its slender body is marked with distinctive horizontal blue-black stripes running from head to tail against a silvery-gold ground. It is an extremely active, peaceful shoaling fish that should be kept in groups of at least six, where it darts constantly through the upper and middle water column. It is one of the most forgiving aquarium fish, tolerating a wide range of temperatures and conditions, which makes it a classic beginner species and a common model organism in science. A tank with open swimming space and a secure lid suits it, as it can jump. It readily accepts flake, micro-pellets, and small live or frozen foods, and spawns easily by scattering eggs, making it straightforward to breed.
