Clown Loach
The clown loach is a popular freshwater fish in the family Botiidae, native to Sumatra and Borneo in Indonesia. It has a striking orange body crossed by three bold black bands and red fins, a pattern that makes it instantly recognizable. It is a peaceful, highly social fish that must be kept in a group, where it forages actively, plays, and even makes audible clicking sounds. Kept alone it becomes stressed and withdrawn. It grows much larger and lives far longer than many buyers realize. It needs a large aquarium with soft substrate, plenty of caves and hiding spots, warm well-oxygenated water, and stable conditions, as it is prone to ich under stress. It is an omnivore that relishes sinking foods and enjoys snails, helping control pest populations. Breeding in home aquariums is rare, so most fish are farm-raised or wild-caught.
