Peaceful betta

The peaceful betta is a freshwater labyrinth fish of the family Osphronemidae, native to Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. It is a wild relative of the Siamese fighting fish, with a more subdued appearance: a greenish to brownish body, red-edged fins and often a red and green-blue crescent on the tail. As its name suggests it is markedly less aggressive than the domestic betta, and pairs or small mixed-sex groups can often coexist, though males may still display and squabble. A well-planted tank with soft, acidic water, gentle flow and floating cover suits it best and encourages natural behavior. It is a micropredator feeding on small live and frozen foods, and will take quality dry foods. Males are bubble-nesters that tend the eggs and fry. Its calmer nature makes it a good choice for quiet, well-decorated aquariums.
