Golden wonder killifish
Aplocheilus lineatus, the golden wonder killifish, is a surface-dwelling killifish in the family Aplocheilidae, native to slow waters of southern India and Sri Lanka. The wild fish is greenish, while the popular golden wonder strain is a brilliant metallic yellow-gold with rows of small red spots and a pike-like body built for ambushing prey at the surface. It is a predatory fish that is peaceful toward tankmates too large to eat, but will readily swallow small fish and fry. Males can be territorial with one another. It needs a well-covered aquarium with a calm surface, floating plants, and open top-water swimming room, as it is a determined jumper. A carnivore, it favors live and frozen foods such as insects, bloodworms, and brine shrimp, and often accepts floating prepared foods. It is an egg-layer that deposits eggs among fine plants or spawning mops over an extended period, and the fry are easily raised.
