X-ray tetra

Pristella maxillaris
French name : Pristella (tétra rayon-X)

The X-ray tetra is a small characin in the family Characidae, native to coastal freshwaters and floodplains of the Amazon basin and the Guianas in South America. Its translucent silvery body reveals the swim bladder and spine, giving it its name, while the fins are marked with striking black, white, and yellow bars. It is a peaceful, active shoaling fish that should be kept in groups of six or more to feel secure and display natural schooling behavior. It is notably hardy and tolerant of a range of water conditions, including slightly brackish or hard water, which adds to its beginner appeal. A planted tank with open swimming areas suits it well, alongside other small peaceful species. It accepts flake, micro-pellets, and small frozen foods, and will spawn by scattering eggs among plants in soft, slightly acidic water.
