Altum angelfish

The altum angelfish is a tall, elegant cichlid (family Cichlidae) from the Orinoco basin and upper Rio Negro of South America. It is distinguished from the common angelfish by its greater height, a steeper forehead notch, and long, sweeping fins, with a silvery body crossed by dark vertical bars. It is a generally peaceful but shy fish that appreciates the company of its own kind; it is often kept in a small group, where a natural pair may eventually form. This species demands a tall aquarium with very soft, acidic, warm water and pristine conditions, making it more challenging than its relatives. Tall plants, driftwood, and dim lighting help it feel secure. It feeds on frozen and live foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp alongside quality prepared foods. Wild-collected fish can be delicate on import, so it is best reserved for experienced keepers.
