Glass bloodfin tetra

Prionobrama filigera
French name : Tétra de verre à queue rouge

Prionobrama filigera, the glass bloodfin tetra, is a small characin in the family Characidae, native to the Amazon River basin of South America. Its body is highly transparent with a silvery sheen, revealing the spine and internal organs, and it carries a bright red tail that contrasts with the clear body. It is a peaceful, active shoaling fish that should be kept in groups of six or more, in which it swims constantly in the upper water column. It mixes well in a calm community of similarly sized species. It does well in a planted aquarium with open swimming space and gentle current, tolerating a range of soft to moderately hard water. An omnivore, it accepts flakes, micropellets, and small live or frozen foods such as daphnia and bloodworms. It is an egg-scattering species that will spawn among fine-leaved plants under good conditions.
