Laetacara curviceps is a small, peaceful dwarf cichlid from slow, soft-water tributaries of the Amazon Basin. It has a rounded body, iridescent blue-green cheeks and a variable dark lateral blotch, and mood is shown by shifting patterns. Growing to about 8 cm, it suits a well-planted community aquarium with driftwood, leaf litter and gentle flow. Provide soft, slightly acidic water around pH 6.0-6.8 and 24-27 C; it is sensitive to poor water quality, so regular changes matter. A compatible male-female pair forms a stable bond and will spawn on a flat surface, guarding the eggs and fry attentively. Feed varied small foods: micro-pellets, frozen bloodworm, brine shrimp and daphnia. Peaceful tankmates such as small tetras and corydoras are ideal companions.
