Lemon tetra

The lemon tetra is a characin from the Tapajos River basin in the Amazon region of Brazil. It is a long-established and popular aquarium fish. It has a translucent, lemon-yellow body that becomes more diamond-shaped and colorful in mature males, with bright yellow accents on the front rays of the anal and dorsal fins and striking red-topped eyes. Good conditions bring out its glowing yellow tones. This peaceful, active shoaling fish should be kept in groups of at least six to eight to feel secure and display natural behavior. It does well in a planted tank with soft, slightly acidic water and some open swimming room. It is an undemanding community fish that accepts flake, frozen, and small live foods, and can be bred in groups over fine-leaved plants.
