Flame/Rio tetra

Hyphessobrycon flammeus
French name : Tétra de Rio (flamme)

Hyphessobrycon flammeus, the flame or Rio tetra, is a small characin in the family Characidae, native to coastal rivers around Rio de Janeiro in southeastern Brazil. Its body is silvery to reddish, with two faint dark bars behind the gills and fins that flush a warm red, deepest in mature males. It is a peaceful, active shoaling fish that should be kept in a group of at least six or more, where males display gentle sparring and richer color. It mixes well in a community of similarly sized, calm species. It does well in a planted aquarium with open swimming space, soft to moderately hard water, and subdued lighting that shows off its colors. An omnivore, it accepts flakes, micropellets, and small frozen foods such as daphnia and bloodworms. It is an egg-scatterer that breeds readily in soft, slightly acidic water among fine-leaved plants.
