L199 pleco

Hypancistrus furunculus
French name : Hypancistrus L199

Hypancistrus furunculus, the L199 pleco, is a small, boldly patterned loricariid catfish from the Rio Orinoco and Rio Ventuari drainages of Venezuela, where it shelters among rocks and driftwood in warm, fast, oxygen-rich water. It is peaceful and largely nocturnal, spending the day hidden in caves and crevices; several can be kept together if enough territories and hiding places are provided. This species does best in warm, soft, acidic water with strong flow, high oxygen and pristine water quality, over a substrate with plenty of wood and slate caves. Unlike many plecos it is not an algae eater but a micro-predator, so it should be fed meaty sinking foods such as frozen bloodworm, brine shrimp and quality carnivore pellets, with only modest vegetable matter. Provide caves to encourage cave-spawning behaviour.
