Glowlight tetra
Hemigrammus erythrozonus, the glowlight tetra, is a small characin in the family Characidae, native to the Essequibo River basin of Guyana in South America. It has a translucent silvery body crossed lengthwise by a glowing iridescent red-orange stripe that runs from snout to tail, with a matching red tint on the dorsal fin. It is a peaceful, gentle shoaling fish that should be kept in groups of six or more, where it swims calmly in the middle water column. It is an excellent community fish among other small, peaceful species. It does best in a planted aquarium with soft, slightly acidic water, subdued lighting, and darker substrate that intensifies its stripe. An omnivore, it accepts flakes, micropellets, and small frozen foods such as daphnia and bloodworms. It is an egg-scatterer that will spawn among fine-leaved plants in soft, dim conditions.
