Cortez angelfish
The Cortez angelfish is a large marine angelfish of the family Pomacanthidae, native to the eastern Pacific from the Gulf of California southward. Juveniles are black with bright yellow and electric-blue curved bars, while adults become grey-brown with a bronzed face and pale scale margins. It is a bold, territorial fish that grows large and can be aggressive toward other angelfish and passive species. It is best kept singly with robust tankmates in a large system. A spacious fish-only or large mixed aquarium with plenty of live rock for grazing and shelter suits it; it is generally not reef-safe, as it nips corals and sponges. An omnivore, it needs a varied diet rich in marine algae, sponge-based angelfish foods, and meaty items. Its size and dietary needs make it a fish for committed keepers.
