Doctor fish
Garra rufa is a small cyprinid of the family Cyprinidae, native to river basins of the Middle East, including parts of Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran. It has a slender, brownish, torpedo-shaped body with a sucker-like ventral mouth adapted for clinging to rocks in flowing water. It is a peaceful, gregarious fish best kept in groups, and is famous for the harmless nibbling behavior that gave rise to so-called fish spa treatments. It coexists well with other calm species. A tank with good flow, oxygenation, and plenty of smooth rocks and hiding spots mimics its natural stream habitat. It is an omnivore that grazes on algae, biofilm, and detritus and accepts most prepared foods. Hardy and adaptable, it tolerates a range of water conditions, making it an undemanding fish, though it appreciates cooler, well-oxygenated water.
