Venustus cichlid

Nimbochromis venustus
French name : Nimbochromis venustus

Nimbochromis venustus is a large predatory Haplochromine cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi, where it hunts over sandy substrates near rocky transition zones. Adults display a stunning golden body marbled with dark blotches and a bright blue face on dominant males, earning it the name giant or venustus cichlid. It is an ambush predator that lies in sand feigning death to snare small fish, so tankmates should be robust Malawi haps or mbuna of similar size rather than small or timid species. It needs a spacious aquarium with open swimming areas, hard alkaline water, and stable warm temperatures. Feed a quality carnivore-leaning diet of pellets, mysis, and occasional fish-based foods, avoiding excessive mammalian protein. Males are territorial and aggressive, especially when breeding, so provide dither females and ample space.
