Figure-eight puffer

The figure-eight puffer is a small brackish-water pufferfish of the family Tetraodontidae, native to estuaries and lower river reaches of Southeast Asia. It has a rounded olive-green body patterned with bright yellow lines and eye-like markings, some resembling a figure eight, over a white belly. It is a lively, curious, but pugnacious fish prone to fin-nipping, so it is best kept alone or with cautious, fast tankmates in a species-appropriate setup. It has personality and interacts with its keeper. Unlike many puffers it thrives in low-end brackish water rather than full marine or pure freshwater. A tank with some salt, hiding places, and clean water suits it. It requires hard-shelled foods such as snails and crustaceans to keep its beak worn down, plus frozen meaty foods. It is rarely bred in captivity.
